Day 1 – Edinburgh

So at 3 AM we got up… no kidding it was 3:30 AM as we were very very tired of a hard and long week working. But we wanted to leave at 4. It is a 2 hours drive to Schiphol from Moerbeke and we needed to be there 4 hours before departure… yeah… Schiphol is still a mess.

Schiphol with EasyJet

We had 1 hour of difference so that made us arrive at 10:40 AM but we left at 10. Lol

At the airport we rented a car via Alamo. Great company! Good service. Great sales people… car was rented for 428… now costs double but we have full insurance 😂

Vauxhall

So driving on the left is easy peasy for me. I do that on a bi monthly basis and never was an issue. This time I had a car with the steak and clutch on the wrong side. That was an experience 😂😂😂. My advice: don’t overthink it and you will be fine!

Arrival Edinburgh

We wanted to check in at our guest house (Cambridge House) but we were too early and needed to go. We could leave our luggage though. They weren’t really friendly but after we saw the rooms… we couldn’t expect anything else.

This was the very big room… kids had it. We had a small room. Half this size and our bathroom couldn’t be locked.

No kids allowed…

And off we went to search for food, shops, drinks, … we were walking for about 15 min and already we felt so tired. The first pub we saw we went in and made acquaintance with some special regulations… in Scotland you can’t just go into a pub in the midst of the afternoon if you have kids with you. It depends on their license if kids can enter the pub with their parents.

The pub on the other side of the street however had a license to take families in… oh my god.. 😂

We ate and drank a bit… then we bought bus tickets as we apparently needed to walk for 40 min still…

Lothian buses

You can have a family ticket for 10,5£ that lasts you for 14h. Good deal!!! they also have amazing apps to travel around with the busses.

The dog Bobby Hoax

We started at the famous dog statue Bobby. The legend goes that there was a guy and he had a dog named Bobby. When the guy died his dog stayed on his grave for 14 years and died there as well. The people of the city made a grave to go out the dog.

Bobby 2.0

Hate to disappoint… but this is not real. There was a dog called Bobby but they don’t know what happened to him. It didn’t stay on the grave like the legend said nor was the guy in the grave actually his owner… even worse… there was a book written about it so the people of Edinburgh put some bones of another dog called Bobby (let’s say Bobby 2.0) on this location. Fun fact: the guy who told us the truth was our tour guide that took us to the vaults…

Oh well… we didn’t touch its nose like all tourists do 😉 Afterwards we wend to Victoria street for some foolish shopping. Great street that leads to the Royal Mile.
